I know my absence has been scandalously long, but I haven't disappeared from the internet all together. I've been hanging out on Instagr.am, Pinterest and Tumblr which all make sharing fun tidbits so much quicker and easier than doing full-blown blog posts.

I'm finally getting around to posting my CA trip photos from two weeks ago. The trip was very quick and was all about meeting my sweet little baby nephew which means I did very little sightseeing and normal touristy things. Even though it was short, my trip was wonderful and I'm already planning on going back in November when Cole has a week long conference in the city. YAY! Below are the photos I took on my only day in SF where I met my sister for lunch at the Ferry Building and walked around the port...

Then we drove off to Napa to spend two lovely nights just relaxing and hanging out...

Knowing that Cole and I would use it a ton, I recently purchased a Historical Society household membership. There are a few historical sites/museums that are free with the membership, so we decided to check out the first one on our list- the Mill City Museum. We first noticed the mill on the previous weekend's river boat cruise and I just loved the dilapidated look of the partially burnt-down back building. Next we took a Flour Tower ride that took us up and down on an elevator with mill sets and video and audio clips from old mill workers. The elevator dropped us off on the conservatory deck that gave us a lovely panoramic view of the Stone Arch bridge and St. Anthony Falls below.

After walking around the Mill Ruin Park and walking across the bridge, we hopped in our car and headed back to Nicollet Island, where we enjoyed a lovely view from an old metal bridge. We even got to see a horse-drawn carriage from the Nicollet Island Inn. After leaving the island we stumbled upon the Northeast Polish festival. Having a bit of polish blood coursing through my veins, I had to stop and get some food. The event was near closing by the time we got there and every stall was out of beer, but I snagged some pierogi for myself and kielbasa for Cole and proceeded to dip my left shirt pocket in a dollop of sour cream (after much soaking, the sour cream stain is almost out of my silk shirt). All in all, a wonderful way to pass a Sunday!

Mini Spotlight: Maggie's Farm Vintage

Maggie's Farm Vintage

Transitional temperatures are tricky, but these three pretty dresses will be sure to help you gracefully prepare for fall. All three would look wonderful layered with a cardigan for cooler nights and can be worn with sandals now and boots later. Also, don't forget to enter my Maggie's Farm Vintage giveaway! It ends soon.

Thursday, I'll be leaving on a jet plane for San Francisco to visit my new nephew! I can't wait. Since I had to get my Tdap shot on Saturday for the little guy, I've been feeling a bit poorly- body aches, fever and a really freaking sore left arm. Hopefully, I'll feel better soon and can post some fun photos from the weekend.

Yours,
Maria Sig 2

come back here, man give me my daughter

come back here, man give me my daughter
A lot of the time while I'm editing photos, I'm either listening to music or humming a tune that's stuck in my head. While working on this particular post, I had that awesome PJ Harvey song, you know the one from the mid 90s, on repeat in my brain (big fish, little fish...) and I felt it made a dandy title, if a little dark. Teenage Maria used to think that song was perfectly depressing.

Erin and I got to spend one last evening with Annie before she left for Chicago! We snapped some sunset photos at one of my favorite Mississippi River spots, then headed back to my place to chat. I am going to miss Annie and wish we could have spent more time together, but I'm so excited for her new adventures in grad school. I think a little road trip to Chicago is whispering my name...

Nicollet Island

Nicollet Island
Nicollet Island
On Sunday, Cole and I took a cruise down the Mississippi River. I can't say that the cruise was all that cool, well maybe the St. Anthony Falls lock was pretty cool, but otherwise it was a bit boring. After the cruise, we drove over to Nicollet Island and took some photos. Let me tell you, Nicollet Island is one of my new favorite spots. Walking down the few little streets makes you feel like you've stepped back in time. I was completely smitten and didn't want to leave, but Cole had a plane to Seattle to catch, so we picked the prettiest spot and snapped away. Cole gets home on Friday and I've missed him terribly, but I've been hanging out with Annie and Erin which helps keep the loneliness away. On Monday we met up with Emma for drinks at Sweeney's which has an awesome back patio and yesterday we took some photos of each other at a pretty spot off the Mississippi River Blvd. I should hopefully be posting those photos tomorrow or Friday...fingers crossed.
