Holiday Look No.1: The Fir Tree

Holiday Look No.1: The Fir Tree
Yep, that's right! My Holiday Looks series is back!! I hope to post two shoots a week where I will be incorporating both new and old items from my wardrobe with a fun holiday twist. Many of the looks will be from my favorite styles, eras, genres, etc and all will help you get through the mad holiday rush!
Holiday Look No.1: The Fir Tree
Holiday Look No.1: The Fir Tree
This first look has a few exciting things going for it: 1) my hair is brown again!!! Yay! 2) I'm wearing a vintage dress that I found for $3 at the Salvation Army in July and 3) this is my first Pickwick Ladies Book Club shoot! There's not much on our fb page yet, but soon you will see many different sartorial interpretations of our monthly chosen book. This month Jenny picked the book Fairy Tales by Hans Christian Andersen. The book compiles many classic tales into one. I decided to draw inspiration from The Fir Tree which tells the tale of an unhappy tree that always wants what he can't have and is never satisfied with the beauty and happiness in his life.

"Rejoice in thy youth," said the sunbeam; "rejoice in thy fresh growth, and the young life that is in thee." And the wind kissed the tree, and the dew watered it with tears; but the fir-tree regarded them not.

Wow. I can't believe I've been absent so long. Time has flown by while I've been enjoying lots of quality family time this holiday and it's done much good for my soul. Well, so many of you weighed in and left me some really brilliant comments. I can't thank you enough for all the kind opinions and support. I'm afraid that I'm going to upset many of you (and make a few of you happy) since I just dyed my hair brown again! I tried and tried to like my red hair, but from the beginning it was never the right shade that I wanted and the more it faded the more I disliked the way it looked on me. I'm glad I tried it and have no regrets, but it feels so good to go dark again. Even though she didn't create the issue, my hair-stylist aunt was kind enough to repair my hair by doing a deposit dye. She had to go a bit darker than my natural dark blonde/light brown but it looks really healthy and pretty! I feel like myself again. :0 Thanks so much for putting up with my fickle moods and for supporting me with my wishy-washy decisions.

I hope you all had a Happy Thanksgiving and are enjoying a wonderful weekend!

Yours,
Maria Sig 2

Millicent Launches Forth

It was so frightfully cold during this shoot that even Millie couldn't warm me up! By the end my hands were so numb that I could barely grip her handle bars. It was 60 degrees on Monday and I was not expecting it to be in the low 30's and so horribly windy today! Ahhh, how am I going to survive another winter of doing photo shoots in the freezing cold!? While I should be mentally prepared, being that it's late November after all, I'm just not ready for this yet!

Ok, enough griping about the weather. Now I'm going to moan a little bit about my hair.;) Do you all still like it? I can't decide if I do. It's fading and changing and I have no clue if looks good anymore. I think I'm majorly over analyzing it, but I seriously can't make up my mind. And it's not that I even want to go back to my natural light brown color, now I'm not even sure if I like that. Haha. I'm just a big ball of confusion. As always, your sage advice is most welcome.

A Leopard in the Woods

A Leopard in the Woods
A Leopard in the Woods
So my plans for a calm quiet weekend didn't really pan out. Friday night, we went out to dinner for Cole's sister's birthday. It was a lovely time even if the restaurant was overheating thanks to a broken thermostat. The strawberry limoncello cocktails I was consuming helped to keep me cool. On Saturday night, Cole and I met up with my parents for dinner at the Jolly Pumpkin and a movie premiere at the Michigan Theater for The Art of Power. One of Cole's classmates helped produce the movie and also had a small cameo. The movie was depressing but very good. On Sunday morning, Cole and I and his family went to see the HP movie. Man I cried like a baby. Also very good and I can't wait for the second installment. So all in all a very good weekend, just not the staying-at-home-and-sleeping-all-day weekend like I was hoping for.

Prep This Way

Most of you know I have a preppy heart beating beneath my strange exterior. It doesn't always manifest itself, but I like to think it's always there thumping away. While I like to play around with loads of different styles, the one I identify with the most is the classic preppy look from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Thankfully, over the last few years others are catching on to this phenomenon and making shopping for my desired looks that much easier... EmersonMade
I am forever grateful to my lovely reader Emma of Olive Bea, for introducing me to the wonderful husband and wife run shop, EmersonMade. Cole and I plan on starting our own label/shop, so the adorable Emerson and her husband Ryan are a great inspiration. Plus, how amazing are these vintage-inspired, high-waisted, wide-leg jeans!? Although pricey, they're just what I'm looking for. Commence saving pennies now.
J. Press for Urban Outfitters
Dressing Ivy League men since 1902, J. Press has been the standard for preppy men's attire. Colaborating with Urban Outfitters is an interesting twist but I love how the designs lean more towards the Take Ivy look from the sixties. Now if only they made women's clothes, I could die a happy girl.
Rugby Ralph Lauren
Ah, Ralph Lauren. What is there to say that hasn't been said before. Starting his career as a Brooks Brothers tie salesmen, RL took that early experience and made an empire. When Rugby was launched in 2004 it tapped into a younger less noticed segment of the preppy market. While some of the styles skew too far from the classic look I love, they still hit the nail on the head with their vintage revivals.

...
TGIF! Wishing you all a carefree weekend of pleasure!

Yours,
Maria Sig 2

I'm so behind on emails and comments, but Thank You So Much for all the sweet comments on my guest post! I've added disqus to my blog to enable me to reply to each comment. It's going to be a bit of an adjustment but I think overall it will be for the best! I thought this week was going to be a bit more relaxing but my lovely Hashi's decided to through a wrench in my plans and is making me quite crazy- literally. I'm working on very little sleep and even less brain power, so bear with me while I get over this hump! I definitely try to look at the humorous side of things, which isn't always easy, but I've been doing so many wacky-quacky things lately that Cole and I aren't finding it too hard to laugh.

Yours,
Maria Sig 2
