Lulu Letty: Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions

I made a tough decision today. After a few months of deliberating with my conscience I've decided that I will no longer be growing my hair out for donation. While it pains me to do this, I've wanted to change my hair for some time now and that just isn't possible while trying to donate it. I still have about seven months of hair growth left and I really can't wait that long. With things still being so shite with my thyroid, I feel so stuck and unhappy and while I know it won't change my life I feel like a new look will help bring me out of my funk. I hope you understand and can forgive me for not going through with it, but I just really need to do this for myself.

Now onto fun decisions- what color should I dye my hair? It’s been eight years since I’ve done something different and I want to go drastic. So you tell me, should I go Bardot blonde or Rita red?
Brigitte Bardot or Rita Hayworth

FYI- Bardot started off as a brunette, I used to be blonde and redheads run in my family! Plus if it doesn't look good I can always dye it back.
...
Yours,
Maria Sig 2

That's totally understandable. It's amazing what a change in your look can do to your mood!

I vote blonde. But perhaps I'm biased - I was blonde when I was wee too!

Oh dear, my computer went nutty! Sorry!

Chelseabird  – (November 2, 2010 5:29 PM)

I love, love blonde hair! I think either color would look great on you though!

Angie D  – (November 2, 2010 5:30 PM)

Oh gosh, I'm going through the same thing!

I vote RED! You have the coloring, and I'm a perfect judge, because redheads run in my family too :)

Emma  – (November 2, 2010 5:31 PM)

It's so funny that you want to dye your hair Maria because I just dyed mine red last week! and I showed the hairdresser a photo of Rita as my inspiration! It's not the exact natural red I wanted because I already had colour in it but she said I should be able to go the red I want in a few months when this colour has faded a bit. I was very nervous because I've never gone so drastic with my hair colour before and although I do love my natural colour I just wanted to try something different. I'm so glad that I did, it feels great!

Good luck making the decision on which colour to pick, personally I think you could pull off either!

xxEmma

yessaidyes  – (November 2, 2010 5:38 PM)

While these are both lovely options that I think will give you a fresh-pull-you-out-of-a-rut feeling, I vote RED. It would be so pretty with olives, navys, browns this fall/winter. :) I'm sure you'll be beautiful either way though!

Amber Blue Bird  – (November 2, 2010 5:39 PM)

Dont worry about not donating your hair, you have to put yourself first sometimes and a fun new hair do might help you out of your "funk?" I think you would look great with either hair color but would you have to bleach your hair for the blonde color? That always scares me so based on that alone I would say RED

Louise  – (November 2, 2010 5:41 PM)

RED RED RED! That is all. :-)

Windsor Grace  – (November 2, 2010 5:45 PM)

Dear Maria,

Red will look wonderful on you. As far as growing your hair out, you have to do what is best for you. I have also donated in the past and have considered growing it back out for these purposes. But, I've kept it short. There are plenty of people who are donating and are happy about growing their hair and cutting it. Donating hair is all about helping other feel like they look normal and if you don't feel good about how you look, what's the point?

Hearts,
Windsor

Regina  – (November 2, 2010 5:45 PM)

I think sometimes you have to put yourself first. This, I understand, was a difficult decision and I think you made the right one. You look so cute in this lenght. I would go for the red, or black color. But not blonde.

Rosa&Carlotta  – (November 2, 2010 5:48 PM)

Go for whatever makes you feel happy :)
I'd say BB Blonde!

Brigitte Bardot is such a household name! :) I think you should dye it! A new look is always good. :) That shade would look good on you!

Frini, the Common Suspect  – (November 2, 2010 5:53 PM)

RED PLEASE! but the rita red, choose carefully! i believe it will suit you perfectly, your skin tone is ideal! blonde is soooo 90's, all blondes are turning in brunettes now, don't go the other way ;)

Kate  – (November 2, 2010 5:59 PM)

Blonde! Blondeblondeblondeblonde. But you will look fabulous however you do your hair :] can't wait to see!

Hannah  – (November 2, 2010 5:59 PM)

I sure know what it's like waiting for your hair to get long enough to donate! I cut off 12 inches last year and now I want it back! So begins the growing again..

I think you should go for redhead, they also run in my family! It would be a totally fun change and since it's a tough color to keep up with, you can always switch colors when it fades!

Kat  – (November 2, 2010 6:01 PM)

Hey Maria, I too thought of growing my hair out for donation and I still might do it but I have been wanting it to be long since I cut it all off a year ago. I just don't want to make that sacrifice again when I finally accomplish my goal! I am a natural redhead and normally would encourage you to go red (b/c its awesome!)but I have seen a trend in some bloggers dying their hair red lately. So you can either go with the trend or go blond and stand out!

elanor,  – (November 2, 2010 6:03 PM)

i'm glad you're going for it! simply changing your hair can make you feel brand new. <3

i think you should try red! i'm excited for you!

xx elanor

Sofia Prado  – (November 2, 2010 6:07 PM)

My vote is for red. Red hair is lovely, and if I had your coloring I wouldn't think twice about dyeing it red. And for defunkifying, drastic is usually best.

nancy : The Sway Report  – (November 2, 2010 6:09 PM)

I vote red for two reasons! One, it'll look freaking classic with your wardrobe. Two, I think it will be less damaging for your hair in the long run.

CAN'T WAIT. I will live vicariously through you, as I am still planning on donating my hair early next year!!

you are wonderful! xo
nancy

Nicola  – (November 2, 2010 6:12 PM)

I vote red!

I recently dyed my hair a darker brown and I don't really like it, I'm waiting for it to fade so that I can dye it red.

Emily, Ruby Slipper Traveller  – (November 2, 2010 6:17 PM)

Rita Red! And I'm sure you can find some other way to support a good cause...: )

A Little Brighter  – (November 2, 2010 6:27 PM)

I'm sure everyone will understand :D
I always went blonde so I could choose to go Rita red after (plus you can't go blonde after you go red, it turns orange)I must say though be prepared to have yu hair be fried, even though it is in good condition. I have very strong thick hair, had never had a split end and as soon as I went blonde that all changed (it's a little less worse if you get it done at a salon)
Good Luck x

Ayesha :D

Lidi  – (November 2, 2010 6:27 PM)

would love to see you with a dirty blond color although I think the red would be just as gorgeous and maybe even more original. :)

What about if you go blond and if you're not satisfied you can go red after that (since your light hair will easily take to the red coloring)?

TrophyBoutique  – (November 2, 2010 6:28 PM)

I vote RED! Omg, that's the first time I have ever said that, and on today or all days...

HereWeGoAJen  – (November 2, 2010 6:40 PM)

I vote red!

And I don't know about Pantene, but Locks of Love takes shorter hair than the requested ten inches and sells it to pay their expenses. So you could still do that.

Regina  – (November 2, 2010 8:27 PM)

A red-brown color would look amazing I think.

Alejandra  – (November 2, 2010 8:51 PM)

I loooooove red...but to be honest, it's a lot of upkeep. I had been dying my hair red since I was 15, and Ive had every red known to man, but it fades too fast. I vote blonde! I think it would look great with your skin tone.

Kate Maggie  – (November 2, 2010 8:55 PM)

I love that you are so honest with yourself and know exactly what you need right now. Good on you Maria! This is inspirational even if you feel like you're letting something go - and letting others down. I look up to you so much! The fact that you were even doing it in the first place speaks so much about you, Im excited for this new change for you and really hoping that you get some new self encouragement and out of this funk! I love that you struggle with this thyroid problem also - I always felt like I was the only one.

I go for red..you would look amazing in both but right now im just feeling red so thats my vote! x

Flora  – (November 2, 2010 9:44 PM)

I totally understand you, on monday I cut my hair (and the hairstylist had apparently a bad day and took it personal with my head) and totally hate it so it's incredible what something as simple as hair can do with your mood and selfconfidence.I'm seriously thinking about getting hair extensions...
Anyway, returning to the important subject, I would choose Rita Red. I wish I had the courage to become a redhead too.

Taylor B.  – (November 2, 2010 9:58 PM)

Short and red.
And never feel guilty about wanting to do something for yourself. You do not need our permission; the permission of strangers.

melina bee  – (November 2, 2010 10:21 PM)

I vote red, always been a fan of red heads

Mel  – (November 2, 2010 10:25 PM)

Don't worry, it's okay Maria! While donating your hair is an admirable and worthy cause, it can be a difficult challenge! I know you could do it if you wanted to, but a new look might help you, as you say, bring you out of your rut! Plus the holidays are coming up, and it's the perfect time to try a new look! Haha I think red would be amazing! Probably because I wish I could have red hair, and redheads like Rita Hayworth and Christina Hendricks make me so jealous (being Asian, red hair doesn't look at all natural...or any other color).

Anne  – (November 2, 2010 10:47 PM)

Hummm..... don't feel bad! I think blond, but not platinum.

Tieka, Selective Potential  – (November 2, 2010 11:06 PM)

I've been contemplating dying my hair too! I need a bit of a refresh, but I'm so worried because once I dye it - I'll never be able to achieve this "ombre" style again - haha, decisions! Why must hair be so difficult? I'm in love with red (like Elsie from A Beautiful Mess has her hair right now) but I'd also LOVE to see you as a blonde. Either way, you're going to be an inspiration for me!!

Marinka  – (November 2, 2010 11:10 PM)

I think Rita's color is great!

Leah  – (November 2, 2010 11:41 PM)

Red, definitely. Don't feel bad! Sometimes you just have to make decisions for YOU!

Ms. Chyme  – (November 3, 2010 12:39 AM)

No problem with that. As long as you are happy with your decision. choose which color best suit your taste. And everything will be okay.

Amara  – (November 3, 2010 12:58 AM)

Oh Maria! You have such a sweet spirit that I adore! I could never imagine anyone being upset about this. Embrace this decision and have fun with it my dear.
I personally love red hair and as I am a person with olive skin tone that will never agree with that status of lush red I love to live vicariously through other redheads. So I would pick red, but as others have stated you will look absolutely lovely either way.

B a la Moda  – (November 3, 2010 1:44 AM)

Definitely Rita Red. It is more genuine.

It's important to be true to yourself. If you need change, embrace it!

I vote red :D

little l  – (November 3, 2010 4:54 AM)

I have problems with my thyroid too :( it is underactive and such a pain! It's holding me back from life so much. I hope you're okay.

I think you should go red :)

Much love,

x

vintagereflection  – (November 3, 2010 6:07 AM)

Ooo how exciting, I totally know what you mean. When I'm having a down period I always want to change my hair and it rally helps. It totally snaps you out of that down crappie funk. I think either would look fab, you could go blonde then from that go red, as either way you will have to bleach your hair to get either colour. Fun times, very excited to see your new doo and I think people will understand as theres not point doing something for charity if your not enjoying or its affecting you in a bad way. Take care x

Bea  – (November 3, 2010 7:58 AM)

Red! I feel like blonde might wash you out. You have great features and red is just the color to make you look even bolder than before :)

Exciting!

Bea from A plus B

Shallow Mallow  – (November 3, 2010 7:59 AM)

What a hard pick - I keep on squinting at the picture of you and imagining you blonde or a red head and I am certain you'll look great in both.

I vote blonde :)
I was a blonde kid too (and my stupid eyebrows never darkend with the rest.. grumble)

angelicaladd  – (November 3, 2010 8:00 AM)

Hey, don't feel bad! Sometimes you just have to change things up. You should be happy to know that you have inspired me to grow my hair out for donation... So not all is lost.
I say you should go with Rita Red! I wish I could go full out red, but I just don'thave the complexion, obvs.
Have fun with it!
Best, Angelica L.

Louder Than Silence  – (November 3, 2010 8:12 AM)

Oh Maria that's understandable, having a new 'do certainly perks me up.

I too have been wanting a change and after seeing the Mulberry SS11 show where every models head was covered in a fabulous red wig, my prefrence is most definitely RED!

Can't wait to see what you opt for...

Sally x

Ms. Cee C  – (November 3, 2010 8:22 AM)

I vote RED! Simply gorgeous!

The Moldy Cannoli  – (November 3, 2010 9:04 AM)

Oh, don't feel guilty, blonde would be super fun!

Fleurtini  – (November 3, 2010 9:37 AM)

Ooh, I think red! But perhaps if you're unsure you could do what a lot of the gals here are suggesting and go blonde first. A mid-toned honey blonde like you had as a little girl would be gorgeous on you. And if it's then not a bold enough change it would be easy to put red over it as it's already lightened.

No guilty feelings allowed either - you need to feel good about yourself, it's so important for your morale.

Kiss kiss xx xx

One Girl  – (November 3, 2010 9:43 AM)

Oh my how exciting!!!! This is going to be great! Well...it might be fun to be blond for a while! Or heavy highlights?
I totally understand - sometimes you just need a change-a-roo. When the season starts getting closer to winter I get a little anxious to do something too so that those cold winter months don't get too boring.

Alice  – (November 3, 2010 10:16 AM)

I vote for Rita red! I think that will suits you very well. :) And I know what you mean! A new look could cheer you up. Can't wait for the result. xx, Alice :)

Em  – (November 3, 2010 10:19 AM)

My vote is RED, but you will look lovely either way. There are some donation places that take dyed hair--not as valuable to them but they can sell it or still use it, so you may still be able to donate hair if you chose, albeit dyed.

Beatrice  – (November 3, 2010 11:06 AM)

Oh how exciting! It's such a good thing that you're doing this for yourself! ^,^
You would look so cute in both colors! I'm voting Bardot blonde though because it would be so much more dramatic to go from dark to light! ^.^

honey and salt  – (November 3, 2010 11:10 AM)

You would make a great red head. It's a color my skintone can't pull off. Go RED!!! it would look great!

MOUSEVOX VINTAGE  – (November 3, 2010 11:20 AM)

With your hair as dark as it is now, would you need to go lighter before you could go red? If that's the case, you could always go blonde and, if you don't like it, then go red.

I think you deserve to do something nice for yourself and really don't have anything to apologize over!

Victoria / Justice Pirate  – (November 3, 2010 11:25 AM)

neither. I think you make a fantastic brunette! I know you said you were blonde a long time ago naturally (me too) but I can't even picture blonde at all on you, but perhaps it will completely surprise me and make me in awe. Sorry you aren't growing out your hair. If you are going to dye it, I think red would be better than blonde on you.

cb  – (November 3, 2010 11:33 AM)

go red go red! that is a biased opinion though cause i just dyed my hair red but i think your skin color with the red would look smashing on you! oh i can picture it now...you look AMAZING! hehehehe can't wait to see what you do!

xo,
cb

Vivian  – (November 3, 2010 1:02 PM)

My family has a thyroid history so I totally undestand your mood!!
I strongly recommend Red! It would be great with your skin tone!!
kisses,
Vivian

500 days of Jo  – (November 3, 2010 7:07 PM)

I think you'll look gorgeous, unstuck and happy as Rita red, go for it Maria ;)
<3, Jo

Becca Jane  – (November 4, 2010 2:37 PM)

Red!!! Totally the best. But perhaps as a redhead I'm a little biased.

Kristin  – (November 5, 2010 8:42 AM)

I've always that that Rita had the most gorgeous hair color!

ManicPixieDreamGirl  – (November 5, 2010 11:46 AM)

I vote RED. It would look pretty and help you stand out.

I've wanted to change my hair for a while, too. I would like some lowlights to make my hair darker and create a Snow White effect. I was also thinking of getting a shoulder-lenght bob - longer at the front, shorter at the back, but not by much. Ah, decisions, decisions!

stephanie renee  – (November 5, 2010 12:43 PM)

go red, the world needs more gingers!
