A Grave Matter, Indeed

This old graveyard is situated right smack dab in the middle of a private golf course and can only be accessed by trespassing onto said course. I would really love to know what kind of city planning allowed something like this to happen? I find it such a shame that people can't access the graveyard and that something as unnecessary as a golf course has overcome a piece a land that should be preserved and revered. After living in Massachusetts, where a bit of history is waiting for you around every corner, I find it disgraceful that my home state of Michigan doesn't preserve what little it has.
Ok, I'm now stepping off my soapbox. I didn't have an outfit planned for this shoot but really wanted to show off my newly thrifted vintage coat! I found it at my favorite Salvation Army and couldn't believe my luck at finding such a gem. The price tag said $20, but when I arrived at the register it was magically half off! Such a steal.

That coat is perfect on you! I'm glad you found a little old graveyard to remind you of MA. But really you should come back and visit New England to come hang out with me!
You didn't plan this outfit? Cause you look spectacular as always! A little spontaneity is pretty great. The coat is super magical, too. And, I'm dying over these photographs. The whimsical, golden feel is incredible. I hope I'm able to take shots like these one day!
this reminds me of harold and maude. also: I love your purse to no end!

What a silly place to build a golf course! That coat is awesome though, especially for $10! Your feather clip looks perfect against the Autumn leaves too! ;)

i've always been creeped out by the graveyards that we have next to old farmhouses in pennsylvania. there's a little patch of land, enclosed by a wrought-iron fence, with 10 or so graves inside. the area was so isolated at the time, i guess, that they didn't have an established "graveyard" - just one for your family.
Love the colors of these pictures and the setting.

Maria you look wonderful, that coat is just adorable and a steal even before being half off!
That is such an epic coat.I was expecting you to say it was designer but to find out you got it at slavo? wow that's amazing!
I never find such pretty coats, they're always to big...
This one looks so lovely, espcially the collar!
That coat is perfect. What a steal!
I can't believe you think I have the coolest vintage coat collection when you have this gem in your life! I like the eerie setting too, shame about the not-so-easy access though, how awful is that?

Amazing!
The coat looks so cosy and even so stylish.
And the place is stunning - I like it so much.
Lovely regards,
xx, Jana from petit fournil de paris.
You're looking like an angel! The autumn light is absolutely perfect! Ouh and I love everything about your Look. Especially this coat is really amazing! You darling of fortune! I'm so jealous about this stunning find!;) Wow and it fits like a dream.
xx, Alice from bells and whistles :)
You've done an amazing job with the color play of the leather pieces & the coat collar trim. Just gorgeous against the fall backdrop.
I love wandering around old graveyards. They're like cities of the dead. Even though I'm not there to visit anyone, I like to read them and imagine what their lives were like.
Ugh, I know what you mean! I think it's such a shame that people don't try to preserve the past. I live in Las Vegas and it seems like it's the law to tear things down ten years after they're built!
Beautiful coat! Love the bag, too!
Ooo these photos are positively luminous! And good for you trespassing onto the past and bringing it to light for us :)
Holy smokes. That coat is... stunning. I love the title of the post! This makes me want to read an Edward Gorey book.

This jacket is gorgeous and fits you perfectly. How lucky you got it for half off? What a steal indeed?! I love these photos, the tones and lighting are amazing. Cole's photography is improving every time. You look beautiful in the last photos. Love the bokeh, gorgeous! It's a shame that the graveyard is so inaccessible. It's a beautiful location and I think graveyards are quite romantic in a dark way.
I love the shape of that jacket! It fits you extremely well.

I love the coat! Very nice.
Old cemeteries can be beautiful. I do love how easy it can be to stumble upon a historical place in Massachusetts. Minnesota isn't as great about preservation either.
Thank you for commenting on my blog :) Means a lot as I seriously love you. I mean yours. I love yours, as in your blog. I love your blog. Ah fuck watevs I love you too! haha.

That coat is beautiful!! What a find! You lucky duck.
I love these pictures. I could spend hours in a graveyard (is that weird?), too bad this one's blocked off. :/

These photos are too beautiful, Maria!
And wow, that coat - I can't believe you got it so cheap! What an amazing find.

I am in awe of these photos. You've made this graveyard look magical.
We have a large cemetery here in town that always glows around sunset but it's usually full of walkers (and also frowned upon for a photo location) so I shy away from going there. These photos make me want to go there right now and take pictures!
What a steal for that jacket! I love the little hint of plaid peeking through!
Beautiful! Love the purse! I just posted on vintage Dooney and Burke:

Wow, what perfect lighting in these photos!
I love when you get to the counter and whatever you have rings up on sale! It's a nice surprise!
Have you watched that new HBO show Boardwalk Empire? It's the one with Steve Buscemi that takes place in the 20s. Your shoes look just like the ones he wears in the opening credits! This makes me love it when you wear them! They're gorgeous.
I love this Maria!! the photos are brilliant! That is so strange that the graveyard is in the middle of a golf course...but kind of funny. Love the silhouette of the coat ^.^
Thanks so much for following my blog! <3
What odd planning, putting a graveyard in a golf course! How do relatives and such get in there?! Also, your coat is amazing, great find! :)
very proper outfit, I love it, as well as cemeteries, the older the better.
Maybe it's just me, but I found that these shoots are kinda different from any other shoots you and Cole took before. However, you look amazing Maria! And the outfits are stunning. Love from Indonesia :)
I borderline am in complete disbelief that you thrifted that coat. It is such a beautiful garment and looks fantastic on you!
Also, these shots in the graveyard are so gothic romantic! There is a little graveyard near my house I read in sometimes because it is very quiet and peaceful. I often share my reading space with about ten deer, too. Your little photo shoot made me feel like I'm not morbid for hanging there... so thank-you! : )
Wow, the light through the trees is just incredible! You look cute as a button. Ps, I just wanted to let you that I'm having a mad sale, in case there was anything you had your eye on ;) xx
Gorgeous coat! I can't believe your luck either ;) It looks like it fits you to a tee. I love the little buttons.
Anyway I just received the package from your giveaway that I won today. SO excited. Doing a post for it tomorrow and I'll be sure to notify you!

Beautiful photos - I really love your coat x
The pictures, the coat, the hair piece, and your rant about the graveyard are all PERFECT.
Beautiful clothes and bag!!!
Like it al lott!!!!
These are lovely photos and that coat is a beaut and what a steal indeed. x
It's a shame that such a beautiful cemetery has to be hidden in a golf course! The pictures are fabulous as well as your coat - a STEAL!
What a lovely coat. And that last picture is so, so pretty.
knocked out of the ball-park yet again, absolutely beautiful! I totally know what you mean about the graveyard too, there is a SUPER old graveyard near me in Danvers that is situated in back of a liqueur store behind a chicken-wire fence, incased in the woods, it's impossible.
ps- your previous post really hit home for me, I have the same feeling about wanting to share more but being reticent to. I'm so sorry to hear about your recent health problems, I know a lot of people who have thyroid issues and know it's a constant battle.
I love the feather hair clip it's so unique! And also the bag is really nice.

Your coat is awesome !
What a hauntingly beautiful place! I love old graveyards, and always seem to find them in the strangest places... especially here in the Midwest. I guess it just ends up making them all the more mysterious and wonderful.
Great post as usual! (Love your shoes!) Keep up the good work.
Oh that third last photo is a gem, fantastic. What a shame about the graveyard access!
Love love your coat!

As a blog reader, I really a enjoy getting to know the blogers I deeply admire for their fashion sense. I often learn that I admire much more than their fashion sense when they open up. As long as you are comfortable with sharing, I think you should continue to open up. It allows the reader to bond and relate to you.
My mom and twin sister both suffer from thyroid problems and I often feel like it's a matter of time before I'm next. Thank you for confiding in us, I hope your treatment goes well and that soon you are back to feeling like your old self. :)
