Feather Headpiece DIY
>> Tuesday, September 14, 2010

Pheasant feathers really have an autumnal wood nymph quality that I simply adore. I was hunting around my local JoAnn Fabrics when I found the perfect feathery pieces for my creations.

What you'll need: one feather strip, one feather piece, black elastic, black velvet ribbon, aligator clip, scissors and a glue gun. I found both feather pieces in the mask making section.

Step 1: make a simple bow from velvet ribbon.

Step 2: glue velvet bow to the bottom of the feather piece.

Step 3: glue alligator clip to back of the feather piece. Done.

Step 1: measure headpiece and the amount of elastic needed. Glue elastic to the inside ends of the piece.

Step 2: glue velvet ribbon around the ends of the piece to finish off. Done.
Both are so very easy!

high five for not one, but two clever diys in one post! yes!

Oh wow! I have to do this. Yay!
These are amazing! I love that you took such simple things and made really beautiful headpieces!
Gah! I have to do this! I have a bunch of rabbit felt fedoras that are missing their feathers... Now that you've given instructions I have to do it now. I actually have to go buy a bunch of pheasant feathers cause I'm doing a Oktoberfest table setting for this silly interior design event... Where'd you get them?
And of course, oh you look so darling!!! :D

Oh and I just re-read the instructions and I see you wrote you got them at JoAnns... I can't read apparently.
And I think there may be a tea party in bonnet in our future.
quite beautiful. you amaze me.
Very nice!
If you want, you can line the alligator clip with ribbon and then it won't pull your hair. If it does pull your hair anyway. If it doesn't, then you probably shouldn't bother. ;)
adorable.
Love!! Especially the feather headband. Such a cute idea.
Great DIY!! I love the fascinator with the bow!! I MUST try it ^.^

I want to give these a try-- you did a fantastic job. I also wanted to remind you that it's Agatha Christie's 120th birthday today!
Good Work Maria! These are awesome! DIY is the best because then you have something no one else has!
Keep it up!
Wow I'm pretty amazed by these two gorgeous pieces right now! What a cool idea, so creative! Once I tried to glue buttons on an alice band, it was a catastrophe... so I'm not sure if I should try to make feather headpieces?!
But I love what you did :)
