but tonight i'm cleanin' out my closet
>> Wednesday, August 25, 2010
It's that time of year again for the seasonal closet cleaning. Oh lord, did I have a humongous job ahead of me. My closet, to put it mildly, was a total disaster. Me + clothes ≠ organized.

I refolded all my sweaters, switched my summer clothes for fall and winter items and organized my shoes.

During the shoe organizing. I forgot how many pairs I had!

A tower of vintage Ferragamos, each bought on eBay for under $20.

Color coordinated blouses.

My favorite fall fabrics.
Anyone else organizing their wardrobes in anticipation of the cooler months ahead?
Yours,

Holy cow—I want your wardrobe! I might be moving back to MI soon...what are some of your favorite thrift & vintage shops?
im anticipating warmer month ahead over here in NZ. Look at all your clothes! just a little envious. Before I left for my big trip to Europe I sold half of my closet so now it is very minimal. need to bulk it up again i think!
I do this twice a year. Once when Spring arrives and again when Fall comes. I'll be doing it in 3 weeks. I can't believe how quickly Summer went by this year!
i envyyy ur shoes collection!!!! in syd, we r going to have warmer weather ahead,,
xoxo
wow you have an envious wardrobe! I love your collection of blouses!

Your closet looks so awesome :) I really like that last picture too; I'm digging all the tweed and plaid and houndstooth, and just about everything that makes me think about fall! Seriously need to clean out my own closet.
Wow, I'm gonna look at your shoes more carefully!
I would love to have to clean out my closet but somehow I don't have enough (but still lots of) stuff and since I'm moving in about 5 weeks I don't have the money to buy new pieces.
I am so jealous of your wardrobe miss!
Gosh how prepared! Really should do this myslef, my wardrobe is currently in a transitional limbo but I'm holding onto the hope that we may have a few more days of sunshine here in London before it's proper jacket weather!
Love,

Fortunately, untidy creature that I am, I don't have enough clothes to swap my summer clothes for winter clothes in the closet. Which is a problem sometimes, 'cause as I wouldn't say I have féw clothes either, I never have anything to wear, hah!
uurgghhh could come do mine for me? lol i really need to do it and really dont know where to start! nothing fits in!!! looks like you did a good job im so envious of your blouse and shirt collection! maria hope u dont mind me being so forward but i was wonderting if you would do a post or tutorial on making videos? id love to try doing one on my blog but have no idea how to go about it! what software to use, what lighting is best how to edit a video clip.. love your videos and any advice you cld give wld be so helpful! :) x
My goodness that is quite a collection of clothing!!!
Hey Maria you need some of those huggable hangers which will create a ton more room in your closet! Get rid of those bulky hangers! :)
Wow that is quite the collection. I need to do the same thing but I am really hoping that my closet will just organize itself.
I'll do it before I leave my house here, at Algeciras; and when I'm back at Barcelona... two wardrobes to organize! But anyway, I love doing this!
I did the same the other day, your closet looks great!
Wow you should be proud of yourself for having such a lovely organised wardrobe now :)
AH! No for the fall! Ah I do love it but I feel like I've been so busy, I haven't even gotten to splash around in my inflatable pool! And your closet... can I has? :)
Good job! I was just thinking the other day about what I want to keep in my "winter closet" and what to pack up.
Yes totally! Also just had my boyfriend move in so my clothes are all over the place. Ugh! Love your fall fabrics.
i need to do this soon, too! what a chore. :/
omg i love to organize! those fall fabrics are looking mighty fine!
It looks so nice! I really need to do this as well. I have a tower forming on my dresser and clothing stacked so high on my closet shelves I can't find a thing! I miss when my closet was color coded and organized.... ugh... you're right.... a huge job.

I must admit I've got such a big wardrobe that I don't need to change the clothes from one season to another, I remove some of the coats but that's all :)
wow! so organized! I'm so jealous of all the Ferragamo's you have!! and all for under 20 big ones! ^,^
It's still a billion degrees here, so not yet!
Man do I love an organised wardrobe, but alas all my attempts (count 2) have been futile. My wardrobe seems to become a mess within a week or so.. However it is semi organised and almost all my autumn and winter clothes are visible and many of my light summer clothes are packed away to be seen and worn next year. Wow, I can't believe how this year has flown by!
well considering it is still in the 70's here in Dec (most often than not) I never pack my t-shirts away, just start layering! Thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment on my leaf T :)
Oooo, so many Farragamos! I love them, but they always end up a tad to narrow for my feet.
I rotate my closet 8 times a year, but I know the "early fall" rotation won't be for a while. We had such a late start to summer, it's going to last a while :)
I adore the look of fall fabrics too! Especially mens tweeds and plaids.

I was color coding the sales floor yesterday at work and it made me want to come home and color code my closet! I am very excited to be bring my winter stuff out, I love layers. :D
I am organizing my wardrobe and packing because I'm moving to New York. It's so hard, I don't want to leave anything behind!
I LOVE organization projects like this! (I know, such a weirdo) Can't wait to see what you're going to do with all those great textures this Fall!
Your wardrobe is amazing. I love all the stacks of shoes. I am a huge shoe person.
I too am prepping my closet for fall. I am donating my clothes I no longer wear and putting my fall and winter staples in the fron of closet.

Yep, I planned to organize my wardrobe last week but still didn't do it. I need to but oh so much work...
Your closet looks so cool btw! I wish i had your shoe collection :)
I love organizing my closet!!!
so super impressed with switching out the clothes-I never do that...and those shoes-jeeeaaalous!
I keep my closet color organized. Plus i have all my scarves, belts, etc. in seperate baskets. My shoes are pretty organized although I'm running out of space. (Does this mean I have to stop buying them??)
I must say I'm quite jealous of your closet though. I think if I was to steal any fashion bloggers closet it would be yours. (watch out!!)

My closet is semi-organized now but I have to find a way to get rid of stuff I don't use. I have issues with getting rid of clothes.
Oh my goodness, what a fun closet! So much vintage awesomeness, and so perfectly organized, too. Totally impressed by your shoe collection!
As pathetic as it might sound: I love organizing my closet!
Well, right now I don't have a closet to organize, but I will have one on Sept 1st! I am beyond excited.
I love seeing how other people organize their closets. I never thought of keeping my shoe boxes before. That's a pretty great idea.
i'm impressed. i have zero motivation to organize my closet right now >_<
and even when i do, it goes back to its normal state of disarray soon after! sigh.
thanks for the inspiration though! it's something i need to get to soon :)
<3
wish i had your cleaning skillz.
You have some AMAZING pieces! I want to raid your closet. :)
I hate cleaning my closet, I do it once a year and to me that's enough. So I always have to be careful not to mess it around during the year..But I love how yours is nicely organised
all these photos are great and so inspiring, but it's far too early to be doing that here! We've got 1.5-2 months before I can even wear tights...
