Lulu Letty: Pantene Beautiful Lengths Challenge

Pantene Beautiful Lengths Challenge

Since I've been growing my hair out, I've decided to go all the way and grow it so long that I can donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths.

So here's a starting photo of my hair now. I want it to grow so long that the ends are past the bottom of the photo. I'm thinking it will take me about a year to a year and a half. Luckily, my hair grows really fast.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths
About once a month, I plan on posting new hair photos, along with tips for growing healthy hair.

I actually donated my hair to Pantene Beautiful Lengths back in July 2008. Here's a photo showing how long it was before the cut.

Anyone else up for the challenge? I know it seems time consuming and scary, but it really is so amazing to be able to help women who have lost their hair due to cancer. I have several women in my family who have survived the struggles of breast cancer and had to lose their hair during the treatments. So to me, it's a very personal cause.

For more information, please check out the Pantene Beautiful Lengths blog.

XOXO

I cut my hair super short about two years ago. I wanted to donate it but my hairstylist said I couldn't because it was colored...? I was really bummed.

Kyra  – (May 15, 2010 11:27 PM)

I'm growing all the color out of my hair first, then I'm growing it out to donate :)

Such a good cause, girlie! Good luck with it!

Lara  – (May 15, 2010 11:32 PM)

This is so generous of you. I wish i could grow my hair long enough to donate. My hair never grows.

Mel  – (May 15, 2010 11:42 PM)

That's so wonderful of you to embark on this mission! I donated my hair back in high school, and it was quite the experience :)

Hannah  – (May 16, 2010 12:24 AM)

I cut my hair to about chin length last summer and donated it to pantene beautiful lengths. Now I'm working on growing it out again. I might keep it long for a while but if/when I cut it I will definitely donate it!

Lisette  – (May 16, 2010 2:20 AM)

It's great you do that, because I couldn't. I'm letting my hair grow too, maybe I can still donate something.
But you did also look great with hair that long!
x Lizz

Wow! You and all the people above are amazing! Unfortunately, I don't actually think my hair will be worth much.. If I tried to cut all my split ends out, I would have an inch long hair.
It would be mine
Good luck growing, you deserve it

That is just so amazing of you maria! I admir you, thats a wonderful idea.

wow, im just thinking about a radical haircut, so i mights just do this! this is a great idea, i just went to the website to see if i can donate my hair from Portugal!
I was a bit indecisive about cutting my hair, but this just might be the little push i need to do it. thankyou!

Haiyin  – (May 16, 2010 5:25 AM)

Thank you for posting this link! Like the poster above, I've been debating for months whether I should get a short haircut or not - and now I have a good reason to. =) I think I'll need 1 more inch though, but luckily my hair also grows quite fast.

Leia  – (May 16, 2010 5:32 AM)

How noble of you! I've cut my hair from very long to quite short at least twice in my life, but in Bangladesh there was no charity taking it in, so I think it all must have gone to waste :(

Sarah  – (May 16, 2010 5:52 AM)

oh that's really coolof you to donate your hair. I'd also do this, I always let my hair grow and then cut it really short again but unfortunately I don't have that thick hair as it's probably needed

Justice Pirate  – (May 16, 2010 7:41 AM)

sooo funny. the other day I made an entry talking about how I am growing my hair back out below my waist (which it was until I put dreadlocks in for 5 months and missed brushing and playing with my hair that I had to cut them out). Here is how long my hair was. . . http://www.flickr.com/photos/electroblood/498755656/in/set-72157600206948109/

I think your hair looks great long from that one picture, by the way. Your hair looks lovely now though too, but I have always loved long hair big time. I hope you succeed in your goal.

Manja  – (May 16, 2010 8:44 AM)

Yay, I am also growing out my hair! A year ago, I still had a bob cut...my hair grows really really fast, it's almost like weed, haha.
I don't even know whether we also have that Pantene challenge in germany or the Netherlands - I should check it out.

I've done my hair three times now, but always to Locks of Love, which is the children's version. I wasn't planning on doing any time soon, but I also haven't gotten a hair cut in ages, so maybe I will!

DearBeatrice  – (May 16, 2010 10:27 AM)

oh wow! that is such an admiring and cool thing to do!! ^.^

Solanah  – (May 16, 2010 10:32 AM)

I'm growing my hair out too! I've always wanted to donate it when it's long enough, but there was always beach and stuff in it, but not this time! I'm excited for this installment, especially how to keep hair heathy during growing it out, it's always harder than I think it will be!

Thank you for the reminder of this wonderful organization! I've been toying with the idea of cutting mine to donate, but the only other organization I was familiar with doesn't have as good of a reputation as the Pantene one.

I think your hair is lovely either way!

I have always wanted to do this, but I color my hair and i don't think that they will take it.

Jenna  – (May 16, 2010 1:01 PM)

I think the look of clean cut hair is so nice, as well as the feel of it.

Also, your wall paper is amazing, would you mind sharing where you got it?

JellyBelly  – (May 16, 2010 1:35 PM)

What a great cause to support Maria!!! Good luck growing your hair!!!

Btw, if I was brave enough to cut my hair off in one fell swoop I would've totally donated it. Alas, I wasn't.

Ivania  – (May 16, 2010 2:40 PM)

wooow that is super generous! those two strands of hair look beautiful... love the picture, it looks vintage

I'll check it, because I'm really interested in this project... maybe I'll join to this, because where I come from there's lot of people with cancer. My mom's best friend is now without hair, and a very importan part of my family has suffered or has die because cancer... so I think this is a wonderful thing!

Thanks for sharing this, Maria!

jessica  – (May 16, 2010 8:51 PM)

This is such a great thing to do, Maria! A few years ago, I cut my hair really short and donated about 12 inches. The last time I cut it, it wasn't long enough, though. :( Maybe once it grows more I'll have enough to donate.

Meggstatus  – (May 16, 2010 9:29 PM)

I too have had multiple family members including my mom who overcame breast cancer. My little sister donated her hair about a year ago (it was over 18" of hair!) My question is, do they take processed hair or does it have to be virgin? I think this is a very heroic thing to do, and I love that you are informing everyone about it. You are amazing.

Amanda  – (May 16, 2010 9:50 PM)

This is really a great cause! A few years ago, I donated 13" of hair (and the rest was still long enough to go past my shoulders!). I've been wanting to grow my hair back out, and perhaps this is my good reason to!

Starr Crow  – (May 16, 2010 10:36 PM)

this is incredible, Maria. I'm really so impressed. Sadly it's taken me FOREVER to get my hair this long (and it won't really go past this), or I would donate. I LOVE you long hair though. You should keep it long for a bit, and then donate! :)

Vanessa  – (May 17, 2010 1:40 AM)

What a beautiful idea - it is such a personal and intimate way of empathising with someone.

I am sure it is very rewarding too,
I will look into it further and hope to contribute one day. Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful opportunity.

xx Vanessa

How generous of you! Your hair was really long, but I think you look adorable with it just as it is. :)

avalonne  – (May 17, 2010 12:32 PM)

Whoa I think this is such an incredible deed. When I grow my hair out, I definitely want to donate my hair! Your hair looks so shiny and healthy :) Your lashes are so long, whoa :)

katie  – (May 21, 2010 1:17 AM)

I remember reading about you donating your hair on your old blog. It inspired me to cut 12 inches off my hair and donate it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths this time last year. I'm growing my hair out again & once it's long enough I will donate it again. Unfortunately my hair grows realllly slow. Can't wait to watch your growing out process-you have gorgeous hair!
