Three Sheets to the Wind

Last night, Cole and I were in Ann Arbor having a few drinks and cigars (yes, I will occasionally smoke a cigar). On the way home I had him stop to take some photos of my new straw hat. What do you think? A little like a boater and a little like a fedora.

My apologies for my scratched up shin. I am forever bumping into things! Usually my legs have far more bruises.
Oh, and while I was walking to UO some woman passed me and loudly commented "I guess tanning isn't very important here!" Hmpf. I actually prefer not geting skin cancer, thank you very much.

Ok, first off can I say how much I love that you "occasionally smoke a cigar"? You're a doll.
Second, love the new hat!
And last, haha! When that woman is old and spotty you will still have the smooth milky skin of your youth ;)

That hat is full of adorable, and I join you in the ohhai-I'm pale and not going to die and I like it-club. Cheers =]
i love your hair like that! i spy a little indiana jones inspiration again, hehe. cute. and your little pointelle socks are adorable. i need more cute socks.
oh my gosh, i'm always bumping into things too! i have phantom paper cuts and bruises all over my shins. it's crazy.
<3
You clearly prove that you don't have to be "orange" tan to be beautiful! :) You look awesome as always!
I have been looking everywhere for a hat like that! I'm so jealous. You look adorable as always Maria, love the pretty little socks. Plus I think your skin is quite gorgeous (:
Love the hat!Adorable outfit! Haha, as you said, at least you won´t die of skincancer and there are actually more important things than tanning, lol.
xxx
You have beautiful skin! Pfft to tanning!
I love being pale and I'll never change!!!!!! :)
you look incredibly good. I love the color of these photos..and that hat is incredible, so are those socks with those shoes. x
Shame on that woman! I for one have never understood the reason why someone wants a tan! on the other hand, there are lots of whitening products in asian countries, I guess it's just a difference in culture?
Anyway, my point is your new sorta boater sorta fedora hat is darling! So are the socks and sandals combination that I never get tired of seeing:)
xx
The last photo is STUNNING. Love your hat and the lighting in these photos is magical. I, too, have been known to occasionally enjoy a cigar...ain't nothing wrong with that, lady!
xo
Cute outfit! Where'd you go for drinks? The weather here has been so nice lately that I've been taking advantage of happy hours (Grange yesterday and Grizzly Peak today). Unfortunately, the weather has also brought out the crazy in the undergrads, who I can hear yelling outside my window. :/
Loving the hat and isn't everyone over the leathery skin of the perennial tanner anyway?!
euh...why on earth would tanning be important? stuuuupid. there is like a billion "tanning places" here, and honestly some girls are just orange. doesn't look health at all.
love the key necklace !
Tanning is not cool!! Pale milky, natural skin is way better!
Super cute outfit as usual :)
Lottie x
Love your photos! And you have a beautiful skin tone! No tan needed at all, I agree with you on that :) too much sun can be dangerous.

Ha, people who make such weird comments really need to go look for some hobbies (besides tanning, of course).
That little fedora straw boater is adorable, and your whole outfit is, actually! Is it warm enough to wear that, yet, or are you wearing tights as well? Well, compared to the icy Michigan winter it is probably really warm right now, hehe.
I love your outfit! You look like you're going on safari in Namibia. And a big raspberry to the lady with that snidey comment, she probably looked like an orange.
You look very pretty. You just can't go wrong with cute socks in cute sandals. I've never smoked a cigar, but I guess it will look pretty cool, haha. I love your straw hat. And that woman was beeing stupid, I agree with the comment above, she probably looked like an orange. I actually am a big fan of your skin colour. I actually am going to try and stay as white as possible, since I don't really like my skin when it gets brown (it actually gets more beige). Say hi to your cute little dogs from me.
You look so cute, those shoes are adorable.
really? someone said that? how rude!
I really like the hat! It is very sweet, the whole outfit is cute!
gosh, arent some people rude! Your skin is lovely as it is.
I do like your new straw hat, and your socks are super cute.
Rose
you have porcelain skin Maria- Your just too pretty, I adore this outfit x

As someone with a ENORMOUS head, might I say that I have a burning lust/hatred for all your hats? The very very few hats I have are mostly from the mens dept., and tend to look a little off on me anyway. So nuts to you for looking so cute!
Oh wow- I LOVE that look! You look like you should be on safari in some far exotic land! The boater is fantastic and the simple key on the string is so sweet! I am always so inspired by your ensembles- thanks for sharing!
Oh also- I agree with all the above statements- you have stunning skin- and really who does want skin cancer? lady needs to check herself...
I can't believe a women said that to you!!!!!!!!! Crazys!
I love your outfit and oh my those shoes!
Adorable hat!
Your outfits always make me want to go on a safari somewhere in Africa looking for Giraffes and such!
Such a beautiful outfit!Love it.And the shoes are amazing...
Have a Happy Easter!
wow, the blue of the sky and the skeleton trees are so haunting. i love your outfit.
xx Vanessa
Maria! I love you:)
I've been looking for that hats in the internet, yesterday I made a little collection of some pics of them that I'll show soon in my blog. :) I hope I could get one tomorrow, I'll go shopping with my sis. :)
For the tanning thing... oh well girl, I'm redhead, what more can I tell you, how many comments I've received in all my life like that and many other aspects. :) I just had to learn to love it as it is and I prefer to protect my skin that pretend to be something I am not. :)
Have a great week-end!!
Besos:)
i like it!
i think i've said this before.. i just cannot really pull a hat (of any sort) off.. wish i could.. but i just wind up looking kind of funny!
have a lovely wkend!
You look absolutely adorable. I love your socks. How rude of that woman... I'm with you on avoiding sun worshipping.
Love the hat and I think your skin has a nice shade of white (not at all blueish like mine is).
very cute. i especially love the socks and heels.
and cigars- ha, i used to smoke them in high school. i hate the taste, i just like the idea of it.
love that hat too :)
Ewwww, screw that woman. You look so perfectly pale! Love the touch of the hat and old key. Have yet to try the short socks with sandals look, looks great on you! I am weary of my muscular calves.
Great hat! Let's call it a "floater" - since it's a cross over of a boater and fedora. :)
I love your socks and sandals!
It's amazing how rude some people can be! I love my fair skin and I love not spending money on something that will make me pruny.
Yay it is Friday indeed! Hehe I wore my new boater hat yesterday! Woo! Go straw hats. Sadly my new boater is a tad too big for my small hat... boo. Having trouble keeping it on my head. Does your straw hat fit perfectly on your head? Love this outfit. It must be super warm in Michigan huh? Lucky. It's so cold and windy in San Francisco now... sad.
I am with you on the tanning subject. I rarely expose my skin to the sun, I always wear SPF 50!
And my legs are always white and bruised. But I still wear shorts.
I like it. It makes me feel like a little girl.
You look absolutely lovely in this outfit. I love the cute little socks and wedges combo.
x
socks in shoes are always cool ; 9
Really? Someone made fun of you for being pale? I think you look fabulous.
I have giant bruises on my legs all the time. The one of my knee right now is the size of a half dollar. And I don't even remember what I did.
your hair looks so pretty like that :)
love the socks <3

haha what a silly comment that lady made. I can't imagine what she'd think of me, since my skin is basically the color of snow.
your shoes are wonderful!
I spied this on weardrobe and loved it! I love that the accessories transform a basic look. The hat, necklace and especially the socks and shoes are adorable!
I can't believe that woman said that about tanning! I think your skin is gorgeous. And I agree, I'll choose paleness over cancer any day.
P.S. I added you to my blogroll!
I cannot believe she said something about tanning!!!! That makes me so sad for her that she would even think about it :)
Had to come visit and wish you lots of Easter blessings. Love your shoes..I so need a pair of those. xoxox
haha, i actually prefer pale skin to tan, and skin cancer runs in the family so id prefer to stay on the safe side too! thats so strange that she commented on that though!
Love the casual button up with the cutoffs. You look great, Maria!
Your hat is perfect, Maria! Oh, now I miss my hat, it's at Barcelona and I'm not coming back until tuesday!
Aww, you look so cute in that hat and those wonderful new shoes! I just got a hat sort of like that at the thrift store the other day because I wanted one that wasn't so dramatic as a boater, only I'm timid to wear it, so this gives me inspiration!
And that woman making the tanning comment is just the silliest . . .
You look super cute, and I love how you did your make-up even if it's strange to see your lips in a soft colour and not red..
Love the shoes and the hat.., so pretty!
And what a rude lady.., I don't get tan either, I like my pale skin, plus I get hurt very easily with the sun..
I am impressed that you can handle cigars, I don't think I can do it but I would love to see your pic indulging! So ladylike but with a cigar in teeth...
Love your shoes and whole outfit.

Oh, your socks are too cute! They remind me of ones I had when I was a kid.

The detailing on your socks is such a sweet touch. Cigar's huh? Very classy!
Great style combination, yet again Maria! Love your hat in particular.
What a rude and ignorant woman !
You look adorable ..
You look beautiful and your skin reminds me of the description of snow white. Why would that be bad? and why would anybody comment on people's skin colour??
Have a lovely weekend

I've never smoked a cigar, but I bet it would be enjoyable. I used to have clove cigarettes and was shocked when I found out that they'd been banned in the US (though I guess I shouldn't be... those things were intense!).
I love your outfit, especially the sandals with the socks! And I think your complexion is beautiful. In Taiwan, people are obsessed with paleness and whitening serums; it's quite a contrast to the obsession with tanning in the US. I'm with you -- I'd rather just like my skin be it's natural color than try to imitate a tangerine!

Love your hat!! these photos are fabulous!! happy easter my dear!! :)
vicki xo
people are so rude sometimes! besides you're in michigan, not LA! what does she expect?
i looove this safari shirt! and your eye makeup is especially gorgeous in this shoot!
I'm loving this so much! That last photo is stunning. I can't believe that woman - and the fact that she was serious! I prefer to be pale too! Not having skin cancer someday is going to be lovely.
aaawww..you look pretty..Love those cute socks and hat..
Don't you look cute! Love the socks & shoes! And, your skin is beautiful! That lady was just jealous! Happy Easter!

You really think that lady's comment was directed at you? Well I don't tan either... for the same reason probably. Skin wears out fast when you tan.
Anyway, the hat is a PERFECT addition to your spring looks. Actually I have to say you're looking super hot in this outfit.
PS. You nailed it with the Seinfeld reference :D
"Like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli."
Oh wow totally lovin' the last photo...I can not believe that woman said that....people are dying lady!

Very beautiful look!
